Chinese Reader
Paste any Chinese text and read it the smart way — it is split into words for you, and a tap on any word shows its pinyin and definition instantly. Works entirely in your browser, no sign-up.
Read real Chinese without getting stuck
Chinese is written with no spaces between words, which is the single hardest thing about reading it as a learner: you cannot tell where one word ends and the next begins, so you cannot look words up. This reader solves both problems — it splits the text into words for you and puts a dictionary one tap away, so you can work through articles, song lyrics, chat messages or graded readers without ever leaving the page.
How it works
- Word segmentation. A bidirectional maximum-matching algorithm finds the most likely word boundaries — so 研究生命科学 is read as 研究 / 生命 / 科学, not the wrong 研究生 / 命 / …
- Tap to define. Click any highlighted word for its pinyin and English meaning from the open CC-CEDICT dictionary (120,000+ entries).
- Private & offline. After the dictionary loads once, everything runs on your device — your text is never uploaded.
- Both scripts. Simplified and Traditional are both supported.
Good things to paste
News snippets, lyrics, a paragraph from a textbook, WeChat messages, or any sentence you saved but could not fully read. Words not found in the dictionary fall back to showing their pinyin, so you are never completely stuck.

Frequently asked questions
How does the Chinese reader work?
It segments your text into words using a bidirectional maximum-matching algorithm, then looks each word up in the open-source CC-CEDICT dictionary. Tap or click a word to see its pinyin and English meaning.
Does it work offline?
After the dictionary loads once, segmentation and look-ups happen entirely on your device — no text is ever uploaded.
Simplified or Traditional?
Both. The dictionary is keyed by Simplified and Traditional headwords, so either script works.
